FAQ

€1.99 on the Mac App Store, paid once: no subscription, no in-app purchase, no ads, no account. Updates are included.

In the menu bar, near the clock: Pense-bête has no Dock icon. A sample note waits for you below the notch. If the notch hides the icon, open Pense-bête again from Finder or Spotlight: its Settings window opens.

Double-click it. Return adds a line, ⌘↩ (or the Done button) saves, Esc cancels; clicking elsewhere saves too. A single click does nothing, to avoid accidental edits.

Right-click the note › Convert to Checklist: each non-empty line becomes an item. Click the circle to check or uncheck it, without entering edit mode. When you convert back to text, empty lines and indentation are not kept, and check marks are lost.

Drag it wherever you like. For an exact place (below the notch or in a corner) and to choose the display: right-click › Style and Position…, or Settings › Notes.

“Below the Notch” centers the note at the top of the screen, just below the menu bar. Everything else works the same way.

⌃⌥P shows or hides all notes, ⌃⌥N creates a note. Change them in Settings › General, with ⌃, or ⌘ and ⌥ together (⇧ optional).

Turn on “Let clicks pass through” for that note (Settings › Notes): your clicks go right through. Hold ⌥ to edit or move it.

Yes: they stay above full-screen apps. To have them step aside, turn on “Hide notes when an app is in full screen” (Settings › General); it is judged display by display.

No. They stay on this Mac, in the app's folder; Pense-bête has no iCloud sync and makes no connection.

No special permission: no Accessibility, no Screen Recording. Open at login, if you choose it, goes through macOS, which may ask for your approval in System Settings.

macOS 14 or later.

English, French, Spanish and German. Pense-bête follows the macOS language; to give it another one, go to System Settings › General › Language & Region.
