Privacy Policy

Unformat Pro runs entirely on your Mac. The app makes no Internet connection: ElpisIA receives nothing you copy, type or capture.

Data controller: David Defoy, sole trader (French entrepreneur individuel, EI), trading as ElpisIA — Logement 5, 383 chemin du Bac, 60610 Lacroix-Saint-Ouen, France — SIREN 533 168 647.

This policy covers Unformat Pro 1.1, distributed by ElpisIA outside the Mac App Store. Version of 17 October 2026.

No data collection

No account, no telemetry, no statistics sent, no ads, no trackers, no third-party services, no online update checks. Unformat Pro contains no code that communicates with a server.

Clipboard content

To remove formatting, Unformat Pro reads your Mac's clipboard each time you copy something and rewrites it as plain text. That text is neither saved to disk nor transmitted. Content that password managers mark as concealed is not changed, and what you copy from an excluded app is left alone.

Typing, selection and capture

  • Type clipboard (⌃⌥V): Unformat Pro reads the clipboard text when you ask for it and types it into the frontmost app. Nothing is kept afterwards.
  • Copy the selection (⌃⌥C): when you press ⌃⌥C, Unformat Pro asks macOS for the text selected in the frontmost app and copies it to the clipboard. It reads nothing else and does not follow what you do.
  • Copy an area of the screen (⌃⌥C): Unformat Pro captures only the area you draw and recognizes its text with macOS's recognition engine, on your Mac. The image is not kept.
  • History: the last ten copied or captured texts stay in memory so you can type them again with one click. They are never written to disk and disappear when you quit Unformat Pro or choose “Clear history”. Content marked as concealed by a password manager never enters it.
  • Hidden files: Unformat Pro sends Finder its ⇧⌘. shortcut; it neither reads nor changes any file.

Running alongside Unformat

Unformat Pro only checks whether Unformat, the App Store version, is open, so that it can offer to quit it. It reads neither its settings nor its content.

Settings and statistics

Your settings and the number of cleaned copies are saved in the app's preferences, on your Mac (domain com.elpisia.unformatpro). Moving the app to the Trash does not erase them: the steps are on the Account Deletion page.

System permissions

  • Accessibility: type the clipboard, read the selected text, send Finder the hidden-files shortcut.
  • Screen Recording: capture the area you draw to recognize its text.
  • Automation: quit Unformat, only if you ask for it in the alert saying that it is open too.
  • Notifications: confirm a cleaning, typing or capture, if you keep them on.

Each one is requested by macOS the first time you use the feature concerned and can be withdrawn at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Automatic cleaning needs none.

Download and macOS checks

Downloading the .dmg file from apps.elpisia.com is an ordinary web request: as with any page of the site, the server receives the IP address and the browser type; ElpisIA links no app data to it. When you open the app, macOS checks its signature and notarization according to Apple's rules: macOS does this, not Unformat Pro. The link in the Updates section of the About tab opens Unformat Pro's page in your browser, only if you click it.

Your rights

ElpisIA holds no data about you through Unformat Pro: there is nothing to access, correct or erase on our side. If you write to us, the information from the form is used only to reply to you. You can lodge a complaint with the CNIL or with the data protection authority of your country.
