Unformat runs entirely on your Mac. The app makes no Internet connection: ElpisIA receives nothing you copy or capture.
Data controller: David Defoy, sole trader (French entrepreneur individuel, EI), trading as ElpisIA — Logement 5, 383 chemin du Bac, 60610 Lacroix-Saint-Ouen, France — SIREN 533 168 647.
This policy covers Unformat 1.0 and 1.1. Version of 16 October 2026.
No data collection
No account, no telemetry, no usage statistics sent, no advertising, no tracker, no third-party service. Unformat contains no code that talks to a server.
Clipboard content
To remove formatting, Unformat reads your Mac's clipboard each time you copy something and rewrites it as plain text. That text is neither saved to disk nor sent anywhere. Content that password managers mark as concealed is left unchanged, and what you copy from an excluded app is not touched.
Text Capture (version 1.1)
- Capture text from screen (⌃⌥C): Unformat captures only the screen area you draw and recognizes its text with the macOS recognition engine, on your Mac. The image is not kept.
- History: the last ten copied or captured texts are kept in memory so you can put them back on the clipboard with one click. They are never written to disk and are gone when you quit Unformat or choose “Clear history”. Content marked as concealed by a password manager never enters it.
Settings and statistics
Your settings and the number of cleaned copies are stored in the app's preferences on your Mac, inside the container the macOS sandbox reserves for it. Uninstalling Unformat removes them.
System permissions
- Screen Recording: capture the area you draw to recognize its text. Requested only the first time you use ⌃⌥C.
- Notifications: confirm a cleaning or a capture, if you keep them on.
You can withdraw these permissions at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Automatic cleaning needs none of them.
Your rights
ElpisIA holds no data about you through Unformat: there is nothing to access, correct or erase on our side. If you write to us, the information in the form is used only to reply to you. You can lodge a complaint with your country's data protection authority.
